Zella Mae Bye, age 102, of Kiester, MN died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN. A memorial service will be held SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 2020 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Kiester at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Kiester. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is entrusted with services.
Zella Mae was born January 21, 1918, the daughter of Edward and Jennie (Wentworth) Stuart in Winnebago Co., IA. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School. Zella married Orlando Bye August 8, 1937. They had a dairy farm 4 miles east of Kiester, where they raised their four children: James, David, Raymond and Susan. In 1972 they built a house in Kiester where they lived after retiring from the farm. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Kiester.
Zella is survived by her children: David (Judy) Bye of Plainview, TX, Raymond (Heather) Bye of Huntley, IL and Susan (Marvin) Bernau of Des Moines, IA; 10 grandchildren: Beth Aukes, Dan Bye, Nathan Bye, Angie Rowley, Mickey Bye, Lisa Nunley, Jason Bye, Matt Bernau, Rachel Francart, Lindsey Maher; 24 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orlando in 1985; husband Don in 2013; sisters: Irene (Myhren) Evenson, Edith (Gilly) Ovrebo, Hazel (Boyd) Denny; brother Cecil Stuart; son James Bye; daughter-in-law Carol (Christianson) Bye.
