Vance Halvorson, age 71, of Mankato MN, died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Autumn Grace Assisted Living in Mankato, MN. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 3:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Pastor Terry Mahnke will officiate and interment will be in the West Cemetery in Rake, Iowa. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN is in charge of arrangements.
Vance was born May 14, 1941, the son of Arden and Lillian (Erdahl) Halvorson. Vance was baptized June 8, 1941 and confirmed June 17 all at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. He graduated from Rake High School in 1960. He attended Dunwoody School in Minneapolis. Vance worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa for six years. He started working in Mankato, MN at Hiniker Industries for more than 20 years. In those years he bought a home in Mankato and enjoyed his neighbors and visiting. He married Judy Langford in December of 1975. When his health failed he moved into assisted living in Mankato. Vance enjoyed singing and was a member of a "Barber Shop" chorus in Mankato and Minneapolis, MN. His spare time was spent camping and visiting with other campers on the weekends. During the week after work he went swimming, golfing, and biking. He loved calling his family from out of town and visiting with friends.
Vance is survived by his mother Lillian Halvorson of Rake, IA; sister Susan (Clyde) Bade of Andover, MN; brother Tom (Henritta) Halvorson of Forest City, IA; niece Tammy Halvorson of Forest City, IA; nephews, Chad (Heather) Bade of River Falls, WI, and Nic (Emily) Bade of E. St. Paul, MN; great-nieces, Abby, Ally, and Hailey Bade of River Falls, WI.
He was preceded in death by his father Arden Halvorson and infant nephew Tom Halvorson Jr.
