Rex Eugene Clay, age 89, of Bricelyn, MN, died Monday, April 17, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN, where he had lived the past five years. Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery-Seely Twp., Faribault Co., MN.
Rex was born June 1, 1927 in Memphis, TN. He spent his boyhood years in Letona, AK, and enjoyed spending time with his grandparents. Rex served in the U.S. Army where he met Audrey Lura, who was also serving. The two were married on September 10, 1946, and to this union 5 children were born. Rex was a hard worker, and over the years was employed at various places. He also attended and completed a school of cabinetry course. Rex was always tinkering on things and could fix anything. He spent many hours working on cars or lawn mowers, many times along with his sons and grandsons. Rex loved to fish and enjoyed dropping a line in Walnut Lake over the years. He also liked checking out the treasures at garage sales. In his later years, his favorite place was the wooden swing that he built and hung from a tree at the farm. Rex was often surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a beloved black dog.
He is survived by 5 children: daughter, Janis (Ron) Erickson of Bricelyn; 4 sons: Dennis (Connie) Clay of Blue Earth, MN, Darin (Sharon) Clay of Wells, Brian (Diane) Clay of Manhattan, IL, Kevin (Mary) Clay of Mokena, IL; 14 Grandchildren and17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey; grandson Michael Dunker; parents and grandparents.
