Ray Jay Kuether, age 84, of Wells, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at United Hospital District in Blue Earth, of complications from kidney disease. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 4:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN with Deacon Gene Paul officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 PM at the funeral home on Sunday. Military Honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Ray donated his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School, and interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ray was born January 18, 1935, in Dunbar Township, the son of Ernest and Minnie (Thisius) Kuether. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Wells High School. Ray enlisted into the United States Marines Sept. 30, 1954 and was stationed in California during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged Sept. 15, 1957. Ray returned to the farm of his birth to retire and assist his parents. He enjoyed and was proud of his efforts in repairing and refurbishing the farmstead buildings and restoring antique farm machinery and pickup trucks.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Marlene (Andrew) Gray, Newton-on-the Moor, England, his granddaughter, Alice Gray, London, England; his brother, Don (Pat) Kuether, Menomonie, Wisconsin, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Kuether.
