Ray Junior Harris, age 94, of Wells, MN, died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 18 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, with Pr. Mary Iverson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells, MN, with military honors accorded by the Wells Color Guard.

Ray Junior was born January 5, 1924 in Wells, the son Raymond Harris and Alma (Mischke) Niebuhr. Ray honorably served our country in the US Navy. After his discharge he met Charlene Gaines at the Pines Ballroom who would later become his loving wife. They were united in marriage August 14, 1949 in Wells. Ray drove semi and school bus, and prior to his retirement was a night custodian at Wells Easton High School. Ray and Charlene enjoyed trips to Northern Minnesota to fish for 30 years. In his younger years Ray enjoyed playing baseball, and continued to watch it throughout his life. He also played horseshoes, participating in many tournaments over the years. Ray loved to help his son-in-law Gene farm, driving tractor and semi on the farm. He also enjoyed mowing lawn, and boating and fishing with his family in the summer. He was the oldest retired fireman on the Wells Fire Department, and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Benny Niebuhr, Richard Niebuhr, and LaVonne Lenort; and granddaughter, Jennifer Chirpich.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Charlene Harris of Wells; children: Pat (Gene) Chirpich of Wells, and Robert Harris of Fairmont, MN; 4 grandchildren: Cassie (Bucky) Brandenburg of Wells, MN, Jeremiah Harris of Golden Valley, MN, Josh Chirpich of Wells, MN, and Naomi Harris of St. Peter, MN; 3 great-grandchildren: McKayla Mithun, Presley Brandenburg, and Belle Harris Harvey.
