Phyllis Darleen Miller, age 89, of Wells, MN died Friday, February 17, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 21, at Open Doors United Methodist Church in Wells, MN at 1:00 PM, with Pr. Paul Woolverton officiating. Visitation will be Monday, February 20, 2017 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Dunbar Memorial Cemetery in Minnesota Lake Township, Faribault County, MN.

Phyllis was born August 20, 1927 in Vivian Township, Waseca County, MN, the daughter of Erwin and Cora (Urbain) Miller. She graduated from Waldorf High School. She went on to attend nursing training at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea. There she met a young fireman, Wayne Miller. They were united in marriage May 17, 1949. She graduated from nursing training May 21, 1949. In 1951, the couple moved to the family farm in rural Wells, MN, and together raised 3 children. Phyllis began working as a staff nurse at the Wells Hospital in 1954. She held that position for 10 years, when she became Director of Nursing until she retired and the hospital closed in 1992. Phyllis was an active member of the Wells United Methodist Church, where she taught bible school, and belonged to Circle and UMW. She was also a member of the Waldorf American Legion Auxiliary, and the Naeve Hospital Nurses Club. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, knitting and crocheting, and fishing and camping. She also enjoyed traveling the country on bus trips with her husband, Wayne. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents; son, Kim; daughter-in-law, Carolyn; grandson, David; son-in-law Chris Heaton; great-granddaughter, Sweetpea; 2 great-great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Morgan.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Mark Miller of Wells, and Kathy Heaton of Wells, MN; grandchildren: Sheri (Claver) Hoehn, Matthew (Bobbie) Russ, Dawn Cory (Tim Reed), Steve Russ (Jessica Schroeder), Jason Russ, and Celia Anderson; great-grandchildren: Scott, Laura, Dustin, Dylan, Dalton, Kalei, Jacob, Jackson, Haley, Hannah, Abby, Brittney, Christian, Austin, Cole, Taylor, Dylan, Ellen, Dacey, and Josie; two great-great-grandchildren, Aadyn and John; sisters-in-law: Lucille Carlson, and Madelon Collette; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
