Oda Katherine (Scherb) Meyer was born January 7, 1922 at the family farm in Kiester Township to Fred and Katherine (Beiser) Scherb. She attended the Hintz Sunny Brook Country School and grew up during the 1930's Depression years with a deep respect for thrift, gratitude and contentment. On a warm, sunny Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Evert E. Meyer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kiester. They farmed for 28 years and then were Winnebago Motor Home delivery drivers for 16 years. Together, they delivered over 1500 motor homes across the United States and Canada. Oda was a wife of 63 years, a mother of five, grandmother of 9 and great-grandmother of 23. Oda was a church organist and involved in many church activities. She was a 4-H member and leader, loved to travel, garden, read, cook and bake. Oda and Evert traveled to 49 states, Canada, Mexico and toured 16 European countries. She will be remembered for making many, many quilts, pillows, pot holders, dill pickles, apple butter and homemade soap. Oda dearly loved her family, their birthday parties and Christmas and family get-togethers. She embraced gratitude, thankfulness and contentment and enjoyed sharing her quilts and pot holders with family and friends.
