Mark Anthony Sonnek, age 66, of Easton, MN, died suddenly Wednesday, July 29, 2020. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 3, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, MN with Father Greg Havel and Deacon Gene Paul officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Easton, MN. Face masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed. To leave an online condolence, please visit
Mark was born April 16, 1954 in Wells, MN, the son of Willard and Anna (Dombrowski) Sonnek. He was united in marriage to Donna Mae Trio May 24, 1980 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, and to this union 5 children were born. Mark grew up on the family farm in rural Easton, MN and was a lifelong dairy farmer. Mark started milking when he was 12 years old, he loved his COWS! After selling his milk cows in 2018, he continued to raise baby calves as they were his favorite. He was a member of the Faribault Co. Dairy Association and the MN Holstein Association, serving as treasurer for both during his membership. Mark was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and served for a time as Grand Knight. He was a lifetime member of OLMC Church and a longtime member of the church choir. Mark cherished his family and friends, often stopping to check in and visit with his neighbors. Mark's sense of humor and personality will be missed by many.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Jason; great niece Audrey Wood.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna Sonnek of Easton, MN; children: Amber Hubbard of Freeborn, MN, Denise (Justin) Brusveen of Poynette, WI, Michelle (Zachary) Slatcher of Laurel, DE, Darin (Amy) Sonnek of Lamberton, MN and Jackie Sonnek of Easton, MN; grandchildren: Caleb and Kristen Hubbard; Hannah, Kyle and Abbie Brusveen; Nolan Slatcher; Violet, Autumn and Emmet Sonnek; brothers: Len (Sue) Sonnek of Delavan, MN, Steve (Carol) Sonnek of Cologne, MN, and Dan (Julie) Sonnek of Mankato, MN; Donna's siblings: Marie (Steve) Sullivan of Apple Valley, MN, Janet (Jeff) Phillips of Ocean City, MD, Sharon (Randy) Kroenke of Mankato, MN, Mary (Bruce) Woitas of Sleepy Eye, MN, Thomas (Deb) Trio of Easton, MN, and Gary (Deb) Trio of Mapleton, MN. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
