Lyle Keith "Spike" Doerr, Sr., age 83, of Wells, MN, died Friday, February 9, 2018. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 2:00 PM Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, with Rick Christensen officiating. Visitation will be one prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Memorial in Aberdeen, SD. Military honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard.
Lyle Keith was born June 2, 1934 in Yankton, SD, the son of Samuel and Louise (Stern) Doerr. After attending high school in Billings, MT, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1953-1959. Spike did various painting and elevator restoration jobs throughout the Midwest. He was united in marriage to Alice Knutson on December 24, 1974 in Forest City, IA. Spike worked for Elwin (Dobber) Erickson and Nordaas American Homes doing dry walling for many years. He also attended Austin Area Vo-tech, where he was certified in auto tune up and auto air conditioning. Spike worked for Tony Downs in Madelia until his retirement in 2000. He came out of retirement and worked at Wal-Mart in Rochester before returning to Wells, MN. He remodeled houses with his son, Lyle Jr. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends. He also enjoyed dancing, fishing, a good campfire, mowing the lawn and gardening.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; wife Alice; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Knutson, Harold (Janet) Knutson and Gene (Edith) Harpestad; and a great-granddaughter Jasmine Johnson.
He is survived by his son, Lyle Doerr Jr., (partner Anthony Rodriguez) of Wells, MN; daughters: Barb (Jeff) Roessler of Winnebago, MN, and Brenda (Wally) Baxton of Maplewood, MN; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Robert (Betty) Werner of Wells, MN; sister-in-law: Pat Knutson of Wells, MN; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
