Lois Ann Kalis, age 86, of Wells, MN, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, MN with Father Thomas Niehaus and Deacon Gene Paul officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Barber Twp., Faribault Co., MN. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Restoration Fund.
Lois Ann was born June 25, 1932 in Barber Township, Faribault Co, MN, the daughter of Leo and Ellen (Sipple) Stevermer. On March 13, 1951, Lois married Aurelius "Ray" Kalis at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Easton, MN, where they have been faithful, active members since. Lois was involved in numerous church groups and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The couple made their home on a farm in rural Wells where Lois worked alongside her husband and she enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family. Lois drove a local school bus for several years and also taught sewing in her home. In 1981, Lois founded The Silhouette which began on the farm. In 1987 The Silhouette relocated to Main Street in Easton, MN. In honor of Lois, The Silhouette will be closed Monday, June 3rd. Over the years Lois constructed and hand-quilted numerous quilts for family and friends.
Lois and Ray were always together, where you saw one, you saw the other.
Lois will be missed by her husband of 68 years, Ray of Wells, MN; children: Linda (Dennis) Johnson of Minnetonka, MN, Paul (Kathy) Kalis of Wells, MN, Charlie (Peggy) Kalis of Easton, MN, daughter-in-law, Sue Kalis of Wells, MN Joline Pearson (Mike Sandt) of Wells, MN, Marc (Kari) Kalis of Dover, MN; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Oelerking of Owatonna, MN and Jane (Gene) Paul of Delevan, MN, brother-in-law, Robert Redington of IL; sister-in-law, Janice Stevermer of Blue Earth, MN; along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; sons: Andy Kalis and Troy Kalis; son-in-law, Kurt Pearson; siblings: Fern Redington, Kenneth Stevermer, Alton (Rosemary) Stevermer and Howard (Jane) Stevermer; brother-in-law, Melvin Oelerking.
