Joan Doris (Dannenberg) Gavin, age 87, of Albert Lea, MN died Thursday, September 14, 2017at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN. Interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, next to her beloved husband, Arnold.
Joan Doris was born July 23, 1930 in Plainfield, IL, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Staffeldt) Dannenberg. She was united in marriage to Arnold Gavin January 1965 in Plainfield, IL. She worked for the Atomic Energy Commission. Joan loved traveling, and travelled around the world twice. She spent time in China, and Malaysia. Arnold and Joan took the Concord to Paris for the Millennium Cruise on the Queen Marry II, and also rode on the Orient Express. Her many hobbies included creating china dolls, gardening, and reading. She was an excellent cook, and had an interest in genealogy, music, and needlepoint. She loved to entertain and visit with friends at happy hour. At St. John's, she became a master bird house builder, and grew mango and lemon trees from seeds. Her friends and family loved to listen to the stories about her childhood and world travels. She was a wonderful lady full of joy and life, and was loved by all.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold.
Joan is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Morton, Margaret Dienst, and Martha Hoover; nieces and nephews: Mary (Daniel) Beiswanger, Daniel (Mara) Beiswanger, Lucas Beiswanger, Rama (Jesse) Sainz, Dora Findley, and Betty (Jack) Russet; great-nephew Logan Richter; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
