Donald Cummings, age 74, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his home in Wells, MN. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 4:00 PM, at Dell Lutheran Church in rural Frost, MN, with Pr. Joe Ocker officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 2 – 4 PM, prior to the service at the church.

Donald Dean Cummings was born January 6, 1943 at home in rural Wells, the son of Donald Othello and Esther Elizabeth (Niebuhr) Cummings. His younger years were spent showing swine in 4-H, working on the family farm & fulfilling the need for adventure by racing cars and getting into mischief. He was a member of the VFW as he served our country in the US Navy until honorably discharged upon his father's death in 1963, after which he returned home to help support his family.

He met his first, and former wife, Christine (Krueger) Cummings, at a Blue Earth diner and they were united in marriage May 30th, 1965. Don spent time farming, competing on bowling leagues, hunting game such as deer and pheasants and he always enjoyed an afternoon of quality time playing cards with his relatives.

He was united in marriage to his second, and former wife, Susan (Williams) O'Marra on December 11th, 1988. He drove many miles across country in his Peterbuilt semi-truck, gardened vegetables with precision and gave sacrificially to people he felt God place on his heart to serve.

Though he loved his family, Don found his comfort zone excelling in his work, whether it was fixing something mechanical or putting a lot of thought and effort into working the ground as he followed in the footsteps of his father as a farmer for a portion of his life—his most beloved profession. He loved animals, Nascar and Minnesota Vikings football. He'll be remembered as a man with good intentions and a tender heart, a unique sense of humor and his candid conversations with God. He was born, raised & he left this earth peacefully at his family farm South of Wells, after a difficult battle with COPD. His last years were spent with his family renewing relationships and building fond memories—a life redeemed by the Lord.

Donald is survived by his daughter Tracy (husband Scott) Andrews of Wells, MN and Brett (girlfriend Sylwia) Cummings of Red Wing, MN whom he shared with former spouse Christine. He is also survived by his daughter Breauna (husband Chad) Wiersma of Owatonna, MN and his daughter Brittany (boyfriend Vince) Cummings of Bartlett, IL whom he shared with former spouse Susan. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Michael Drager of Hager City, WI, Lacie Drager of St. Cloud, MN, Samuel Drager of Montevideo, MN, Cayden Lynch of Wells, MN, Chelsey Cummings of Mankato, MN, Ellicyn Cummings of Ellsworth, WI, Norah Wiersma of Owatonna, MN and Riley Wiersma of Owatonna, MN as well as one great-grandchild, Zara Drager of St. Cloud, MN; and sister, Donna (Dean) Sonnek of Albert Lea, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Esther Cummings and he has joined them now in his heavenly home.
