Hazel Elaine Sampson, age 90, of Kiester, MN died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 10, at 10:30 AM, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Kiester, MN, with Pr. Katie Pals officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 9, from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family.
Hazel Elaine Sampson was born April 1, 1927 in Joice, IA and baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, IA. She was the daughter of Alfred and Alma (Brackey) Greene and was united in marriage to Irving J. Sampson in Kiester. To this union were two daughters, Patricia Ball of Burnsville and Julie Scherb of Clarks Grove. She was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA and Dorcas Circle at church, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 46 years. She loved playing Bridge, Poker, and Blackjack in Kiester, Wells, and Bricelyn. She visited and wrote many letters to people in rest homes. She loved her neighbors, Jan and Connie Engebretson so much!
She is survived by her daughters, Pat and husband Ken Ball of Burnsville, Julie Scherb and friend, Dr. C. Carlson of Clarks Grove; grandsons: Tracy Ball, John and wife Kaylee Ball, all of Lakeville; granddaughter, Michelle and husband Bryan Johnson of Elko New Market; 3 great-granddaughters: Natalie, Savana, and Maraya Ball of Lakeville; 2 sisters: Sharon Kalis of Montgomery, MN, and Mary Hoeft of Arizona; along with several nieces, and nephews and their families, and a huge host of friends .
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irving in 1995; and 2 sisters: Jeane Hellie and Lavonne Scott.
