Mark was born May 12, 1954, in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Robert and Helen (Havens) Ecklund, Kiester, Minnesota. He was greeted upon his entrance into heaven by his Mother, Helen Ecklund, Father, Robert Ecklund, Sister, Sandra Albers, Nephew, Dirk Albers, Aunts and Uncles, and Grandparents. He is survived by one son, Taylor Ecklund in Hawaii, one sister, Robbin Ecklund in Arizona, his life partner, Kathy Kroger, three nieces, Nikki Doherty in Arizona, Tami Janzig, and Tia Grunst, and one nephew, Stacy Albers, all in Minnesota. Mark also leaves several great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Mark graduated from Kiester High School in 1972. He went to work for the family trucking company, Ecklund Trucking, as a truck driver and later became owner/operator. He drove for various other trucking companies in Southern Minnesota.
Mark had a beautiful singing voice and he sang at numerous weddings. He also loved to sing Karaoke and did that as often as his schedule would allow.
Mark had an amazing sense of humor. He was quick-witted and could come up with one liners quicker than most people can even think! He was literally hilarious. He loved to laugh and make others laugh too. He was quirky, fun, and a bit mischievous but he also had a very sensitive side and wasn't afraid to shed a tear.
Mark loved riding his motorcycle every opportunity he got. It was a very difficult day for Mark when he realized that his health would no longer allow him to ride. He also loved his pet dog, Smokey. He was also very proud of his son who was in the U.S. Navy.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Dear Ecklund Family,
Ever since Grade School days in Kiester, I always saw your beloved Mark as one VERY classy guy. He had such a flair for life, both in the way he dressed so neatly, to the gusto in his desire for enjoying every minute of every day.
My prayers of comfort and love go out to all of you as you cherish your own memories of this wonderful brother of yours and that his loss to us, here on earth, is but momentary as we will rejoice in our union with him on Heaven's Shore someday!! >
Love to you all,
N. Elliott Noorlun

Mark was a very loyal friend and classmate. He was also a great teammate in football, track and wrestling so we spent a lot of time together through high school and for the next few years. He was always positive and possessed a great sense of humor. We shared a lot of laughs and fun times. He will be missed by all that knew him. My sincere condolences to friends and family.
