Condolence & Memory Journal

Russ was such a gentle, kindly soul. He had a gruff exterior, but he wasn't like that at all. We played cards together for several years, both in Freeborn and Minnesota Lake, and I especially valued his quick wit and low-key sense of humor. Something about his comments always struck me funny, and I think he realized that; now and then, he'd make a wry comment and I'd look up just in time to see him gradually turn away. But he'd always catch my eye, and smirk every so slightly, and...that was it. Others would look over, and ask what was so funny. Nothing, I'd say, wondering how they could missed Russ' casual but very clever remark. I'll miss Russ very much - there was just no one quite like him, anywhere. May God bless him always!

I appreciated Russ' sharp, low-key sense of humor. We used to play cards together in Freeborn, and he'd make some wry comment - and I'd quickly look up just as he was turning away. But there'd be a glint in the corner of his eye, and he'd smirk every so casually. It just broke me up every time! Russ was a very humble, kind-hearted, generous man, and I'll miss him very much.

Blessings to the family as you celebrate your dad. Russ was always sweet to me. I will always remember Russ's steady person. Man of faith, loved his kids, cared for his wife.
